RN Supervisor Training

60-Day Supervisory Visit Timeline Requirement

Plan of Correction · Finding #10 — OAC 173-39-02.12 / 173-39-02.14

OAC 173-39-02.12 / 173-39-02.14: The provider shall ensure that a supervisory visit is conducted by a registered nurse for each consumer receiving personal care services. The first supervisory visit shall occur within 60 calendar days of the start of service, and ongoing supervisory visits shall occur at least every 60 calendar days thereafter. This training addresses the deficiency identified in Finding #10 of the structural compliance review, in which PCA supervisors were not trained on the 60-day supervisory visit timeline requirement.

Training Session Information

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, the RN/LPN supervisor will be able to:

  1. State the OAC 173-39-02.12 and 173-39-02.14 regulatory requirement for PCA supervisory visits.
  2. Identify that the first supervisory visit must occur within 60 calendar days of the start of service.
  3. Identify that ongoing supervisory visits must occur at least every 60 calendar days thereafter.
  4. Document the supervisory visit accurately, including date, time, consumer, caregiver, observations, and any corrective action.
  5. Recognize and respond to significant changes in a consumer's condition within 1 business day per OAC 173-39-02.11.
  6. Maintain the supervisory visit tracking log and submit completed records to the Director of Nursing.

Key Regulatory Points

  • •A 'supervisory visit' is an on-site, in-person observation of the PCA providing care to the consumer in the consumer's home.
  • •Telephone calls or office visits do NOT count as a supervisory visit.
  • •The 60-day clock starts on the first day service is delivered to the consumer.
  • •If a supervisory visit cannot be completed within 60 days due to consumer hospitalization or refusal, document the reason and notify the DON; the visit must be completed as soon as the consumer is available.
  • •Each visit must be documented on the Supervisory Visit form and retained in the consumer's record.
  • •The Operations Manager supervises and audits the supervisory visit tracking log every 60 days to verify compliance.
